KÖNNEN - PROTECTIVE CERAMIC COATINGS
CREATED BY PROFESSIONALS FOR PROFESSIONALS
WHAT CAN CERAMIC COATING NOT SAVE FROM?
The coating will not protect your car from scratches, cracks and scuffs if not properly maintained. It will not protect against gravel, or any other mechanical damage. The ceramic coating is not a protective film. It's a fantastic tool for keeping your car in top condition for the long haul, but it doesn't solve every problem!
On this page you can find all the information you need to complete the application process with comfort and safety,
and the coatings retained their properties throughout the entire period of operation.
HOW CERAMIC COATINGS WORK?
The coating layer can be very thin, but extremely durable. It is completely chemical resistant and cannot be removed without polishing. Being a liquid during application, the coating penetrates into the porous structure of the paintwork and hardens it. This greatly enhances the smoothness of any automotive paint. Also, the ceramic coating is highly resistant to UV radiation, which prevents oxidation of the paint.
A CERAMIC COATING -
WHAT IS IT?
It is a hard, transparent, smooth and self-cleaning protective layer based on silicon dioxide or graphene oxide after crystallization. Coatings are applied to virtually any vehicle surface to provide maximum protection against weather, temperature and influence of chemical reagents.
DO WATER STREAMS ON BODY PAINT COATING MEAN PROBLEMS WITH THE COATING?
No, they can occur regardless of the form of protection of the paintwork. Once hard or contaminated water dries on the surface, minerals and dirt remain in the form of streaks, and with strong exposure to the sun, they will etch the paint. Will ceramic coating protect against such phenomena? No. But it can make it easier to remove them, with a quick response. Dry water stains are considered a coating problem, as during the first weeks, when the coating is not yet 100% cured, it is less resistant to environmental influences. Therefore, we recommend that you do not wash your car for the first 14 days and avoid harsh chemical substances.
WHAT IS THE SERVICE LIFE OF CERAMIC COATINGS?
The service life of ceramic coatings is practically unlimited if it is regularly renewed. The coating cannot be removed with chemical reagents, and its properties are not weakened by exposure to UV rays. Over time, exposure to the atmosphere can degrade coating performance. It will continue to protect your vehicle but may lose its original hydrophobic properties or smoothness. This makes regular maintenance an essential part of owning a ceramic-coated vehicle.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES
OF CERAMIC COATING?
Können coatings are applied not only for the sake of the great appearance of the car. Yes, applying ceramic will give a stunningly deep glossy finish to the paintwork, but you will see most of the benefits on a daily basis. The car will get dirty much more slowly - regular preventive washes will become more rare. Your car will become smoother and will collect less dust and dirt. The paint will stop oxidizing, and brake dust will stick to the rims less. The paintwork will remain shiny like a new car for several years.
Before application:
Make sure that the surface is free from any contamination and old coatings (waxes, sealants, sprays, etc.)
Work area requirements:
- Minimize levels of dust, moisture, heat and environmental pollution for maximum grip performance.
- Provide sufficient lighting for better visibility of both top and side surfaces. A combination of warm (<3000K) and cool lighting (>4000K) will help to achieve proper application.
- Have adequate ventilation systems to avoid inhalation of vapours.
- Open flames, lit cigarettes, stoves or heating devices (blowtorches, heat guns, etc.) are prohibited!
Do not apply the product in direct sunlight or on a hot surface!
- Optimum surface temperature < 25 °C (77 °F).
- Optimum ambient temperature < 32 °C (90 °F).
If natural precipitation occurs, shake the bottle well to evenly distribute the product in the container and wait 1 minute; then slowly unscrew the cap to release the accumulated gas.
Application of multiple coats is not necessary and may result in additional product consumption. A maximum of 2 coats will be more than enough to cover any missed areas during the first coat. The Können Graphen coating is designed to have maximum repellency, and the extra layers (>2) will repel and have no effective grip and as a result will not increase durability or protection.
Do not use other protective compounds, sealants, waxes, sprays before and after coating, as this will affect the performance and adhesion of the coating!
Application process:
Any problems are best dealt with using the above methods within the first 15 minutes after application, while the coating begins to cure. In extreme cases, within 1 hour after application, the damaged area can be removed with isopropylene.
After 24 hours, any problems can only be solved by removing the coating and reapplying it. This can be done with a sander and re-applied.
Drying to initial curing: with an infrared lamp 40-50 °C (104-122 °F) on the surface - within 2 hours, or 5 hours without a lamp (the surface must remain dry, without contact with water and other liquids).
Full cure time: 24 hours with infrared drying at 40-50 °C (104-122 °F) on the surface. Without IR drying - 7 days in tropical or humid climates / 14 days in temperate or dry climates.
Until fully cured:
- Do not allow the surface to come into contact with aggressive substances (bird droppings, plant sap, insect splashes, cleaning products, shampoos, etc.)
- In the event of contact, gently wipe off contamination with a damp MF towel or soft cloth using fresh water.
- If the dirt has dried on, place a slightly damp MF towel or damp cloth over the stain to soften it before gently wiping it off.
- Avoid exposure to harsh environmental conditions (exposure prior to curing may result in poor adhesion, premature wear of the coating, staining, etching or corrosion).
- Exposure to rainwater will not affect the curing process. However, make sure that rainwater does not remain on the surface for long periods of time during the full cure period by drying it with an MF towel when weather permits.
- Surface cleaning from dirt can be carried out with a damp MF towel using fresh water. Wipe and dry gently. Cleaning can also be carried out using any water-soluble spray separators with the maximum allowable dilution rate with fresh water.
Appearance after curing: optically clear, slight darkening of tone and increased reflectivity (gloss).
Solvent incompatibility: N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), tetrahydrofuran (THF), chloroform, ether (use of products containing these solvents causes swelling, gelation during application).
Products containing solvents such as: acetone, 1-propanol, methanol, water, 2-propanol (IPA) in small quantities can be used without significant effect.
Recommended care (after full curing):
- Every 1-2 weeks: washing should be done with a neutral pH shampoo.
- Every 1-2 months (user preference): washing can be done with an alkaline shampoo no more than pH 12 for deep cleansing and removal of oil stains and road film. Oil and dirt remaining in the pores or on the surface will affect the water repellency.
- Every 2-4 months: maintenance of the coating with water-soluble detailer sprays.
- Every 4-6 months: remove stubborn stains using clay sticks or a high quality cloth. This is important to maintain the smoothness of the machined surface. A rough surface will affect the hydrophobic properties.
- After 1 year: reapply a repair coat if the original water repellency or smoothness has deteriorated.
Do not apply any other coatings, waxes or sealants as additional or top coats without consulting a Können representative as this may adversely affect the performance of the coating.
Expiration dates:
- 2 years without opening the package.
- 6 months after depressurization of the vial with the composition.

After 24 hours, any problems can only be solved by removing the coating and reapplying.
Drying of the coating before initial curing: 2 hours with infrared drying (+40-50 °C / 104-122 °F on the surface), or 5 hours without it (in a dry, warm room).
Full cure: 7 days in warm/humid climates or 14 days in temperate/dry climates.
Until fully cured:
- Avoid surface contact with aggressive substances (bird droppings, plant sap, insect spray, cleaning products, shampoos, etc.)
- If these substances come into contact, wipe them gently with a damp towel or soft cloth using clean water.
If the stain has dried, place a slightly damp towel or tissue over the stain to soften it before gently wiping it off.
- Exposure to rainwater will not affect the curing process. However, make sure that rainwater is not on the surface for long periods of time by drying it with a towel when the weather permits.
- Any corrosive substances or rain water that has been on the treated surface for a long time, when exposed to sunlight and heat, can cause stains and marks on the coating that has not yet hardened.
- The bodywork can be cleaned with a damp MF towel using clean water. Then gently wipe and dry the body surface.
The appearance of the coating after curing: optically transparent, slight darkening of color tones and increased reflectivity.
Products containing solvents such as acetone, 1-propanol, methanol, water, 2-propanol (IPA) in small amounts can be used without significant impact.
Recommended care (after full curing):
- Every 1-2 weeks: washing with pH-neutral shampoo.
- Every 1-2 months: washing with an alkaline shampoo with a pH of no more than 12 for deep cleansing and removal of oily road film. Oil that gets into the pores or on the surface of the paintwork will affect the water-repellent properties of the coating.
- Every 2-4 months: application of water-soluble spray paint refreshers to prolong the life of the coating.
- Every 4-6 months: remove embedded dirt with thin clay bars or cloth. This is important to keep the surface smooth. A rough surface will affect the water repellency.
Do not apply any other coatings, waxes or sealants as additional or top coats without consulting a Können representative as this may adversely affect the performance of the coating.
Expiration dates:
- 2 years without opening the package.
- 6 months after depressurization of the vial with the composition.
Sediment dropout:
- Permissible when stored for more than 1 month.
- Shake the bottle well before using the composition until the product has a uniform color.
- Always uncork the cap carefully to release accumulated gases after shaking the vial.
Storage conditions:
- Ambient temperature <30 °C (86 °F).
- Cool and dry room.
- Do not store in direct sunlight.
- The product is heat sensitive - gelling may occur if exposed to excessive heat.
- Do not store near open flames, stoves, heaters or flammable objects.
